Welcome

Choosing a residency is an important decision, and we are committed to helping you find the right fit.

At Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, our Internal Medicine Residency offers a comprehensive, high-quality training experience that prepares you for a meaningful and rewarding career in medicine. You will train in a supportive environment where education, mentorship, and resident well-being are prioritized.

All About Us

Geisinger is an integrated, physician-led health system that serves more than 1 million people across central and northeastern Pennsylvania and is nationally recognized for innovation in care delivery, including ProvenCare® and its award-winning Epic® electronic medical record. Our system includes approximately 25,000 employees, more than 1,700 physicians, 10 hospital campuses, over 130 outpatient sites, two research centers, and a health plan serving more than 500,000 members.

Geisinger Medical Center is home to the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and has achieved American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition®, reflecting a strong culture of nursing excellence and team-based care. As a tertiary and quaternary care center, we care for highly medically complex patients and provide exposure to advanced therapies such as ECMO, Impella, and LVAD support, as well as liver and kidney transplantation.

Our Internal Medicine Residency, established in 1955, has grown from a single trainee to 54 categorical residents, with 18 residents per class. The program is a fully ACGME-accredited, three-year training program committed to developing skilled, compassionate, and thoughtful physicians.

We also offer innovative training opportunities, including the ACGME-ABIM approved Geisinger Accelerated Internal Medicine Nephrology (GAIN) pathway, introduced in the 2025-2026 academic year, which offers an accelerated, streamlined pathway into nephrology for one resident annually through the NRMP Match.
