There is an extensive network of research mentors at Geisinger. When an area of interest is identified, meetings can be arranged with research mentors in your respective field. Research mentors will assist in the processes where funding is available for statistical support and data gathering once your project is started. Additionally, they can provide support for navigating the IRB process. Under the guidance of our dedicated research mentors at Geisinger, our residents have been wildly successful at producing published papers, abstracts, and research presentations. Here you will find sample scholarly activities from our residents from the past couple of years.

Research Support

In alignment with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements, our residents actively participate in quality improvement (QI) initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, safety, clinical workflows, and resident education. Many also engage in scholarly research.

 

We support these efforts through:

  • Dedicated faculty mentors who provide guidance in research and QI projects

  • A structured curriculum covering the fundamentals of research

  • Access to research support staff and statisticians to assist with study design, IRB approval, and funding opportunities

  • Opportunities to participate in quality improvement committees within areas of interest

  • Financial support from the department or graduate medical education office for presenting work at regional and national conferences
